Mark your calendars for July 18! You need to save the date for next month AND start collecting cardboard for our 5th annual homemade Cardboard Boat Races. Teams may consist of 1, 2, or 4 people (adults and/or kids). There will be prizes for the teams that cross the finish line first. We’ll provide more race details in July, but we want you to be aware of the materials you need to start collecting – and those to avoid – if you want to participate in this hilariously fun event. Themed, decorated, and otherwise creatively festooned boats are encouraged. Registration will begin at 11:00 a.m. and the race will begin at 11:30 a.m.

Permitted materials: corrugated cardboard and cardboard boxes (from grocery stores or delivery packages), cardboard “blocks” (from furniture store packaging), cardboard tubes (from carpet/linoleum stores), duct or masking tape, liquid nails, construction adhesive, latex paint, varnish, or polyurethane.

Materials NOT permitted: pre-coated or pre-treated cardboard, plastic or plastic sheathing, wood, Styrofoam, metal, sonotubes (used in construction/concrete forms), silicone, wax, tar, caulking compounds or two-part mixed adhesives, staples, clamps, fiberglass, glass, nails, screws, or sharp objects.
